Elder Academic Team 2004-2005

  

The members of this year's Academic Team, which competes in the Greater Cincinnati Academic League, are:

SENIORS: John Burger, Dale Merz, Kevin Nicholas, and Nick Siefke

JUNIORS: Will Zichawo

SOPHOMORES: Ben Bedel, Greg Metz, Jake Meyer, and Michael Murphy

The GCAL consists of 15 teams which will compete in two divisions. Teams will compete against both the varsity and JV teams from the schools in their division; they will compete only against the varsity teams from the schools in the other division. These are the randomly selected division assignments for this season:

Purcell-Marian won Division 1 and went on to face Division 2 winner St. Xavier in the semi-finals. St. Xavier won, 47-30. Division 3 winner Moeller faced Division 4 winner Ursuline in the other semi-final, which Ursuline won, 49-28. St. Xavier then defeated Ursuline in the final round, 50-39.

Elder won Division 2 and went on to face Division 1 winner Chaminade-Julienne in the semi-finals. Elder won, 44-32. Division 3 winner Moeller faced Division 4 winner La Salle in the other semi-final, which La Salle won, 31-30. Elder then defeated La Salle in the final round, 38-33.

This marks Elder's first-ever tournament win, and qualifies the team for the state tournament on April 23. Congratulations!
