Head Coach: Virgil J. Scardina (Career Record: 4-5-1)
Captain: Dan Boyle
Final GCL Standings:
1. Purcell 2. ELDER 3. St. Xavier 4. Roger Bacon
Season Highlights: Following the resignation of Coach Bartlett after 26 years as head coach, assistant coach Mr. Virgil Scardina was named head coach. Coach Scardina's team went 4-5-1 in his first season, with highlights of the season victories over rivals St. Xavier and Western Hills. The squad finished second in the league, behind Purcell who remained undefeated in the GCL for the third consecutive year.
The Panthers won the first game of the season, at Chillicothe, 13-7. Halfback Paul Plageman intercepted two passes in the game, returning one 55 yards for a touchdown. Plageman intercepted another pass in the victory over St. Xavier, as did Captain Dan Boyle, who returned the pick 22 yards for the first score of the game. Four other Panthers went on to score TDs in the 31-6 rout of the Bombers.
The Purple and White overcame six fumbles and battled back from a 13-0 deficit with two TDs in the fourth quarter to tie Roger Bacon in the annual GCL doubleheader at Xavier University Stadium, missing the chance to win on a blocked extra point attempt. On Thanksgiving Day, the Panthers topped the Maroons, led by Bob Geiser's 2 TDs. Geiser ended the season as the team's leading scorer with 8 TDs and 54 points. Boyle received first team All-City recognition, while Geiser was named to the second team. (Dan Boyle is the son of Ralph "Buzz" Boyle, who was the team's captain in 1926.)
