Season Highlights: Elder expanded its horizons in 1951, hosting a team from Boys Town, Nebraska to open the season, followed by a road trip to perennial Ohio power Massillon Washington. After defeating Boys Town 7-0, the Panthers were crushed 42-6 by Massillon, initiating a 3-game skid. Big losses to Hamilton's Big Blue and Louisville Flaget brought the Panther's record to 1-3. In the Hamilton game, Co-Captain Ken Bockenstette picked off another pass, this time thrown by Hamilton's QB Joe Nuxhall, and ran 38 yards for the score.

A 64-yard Bockenstette-to-Jim Caruso pass and a 25-yard Bockenstette interception return sparked the Panthers' return to the victory column over Newport Catholic, 31-7. Bockenstette picked up 2 more interceptions, returning one 47 yards for a TD, and Don Taphorn recovered a fumble in the end zone in the Panthers' first GCL contest against Roger Bacon. After a 7-6 loss to Columbus Aquinas in which the Panthers surrendered the ball 9 times on interceptions, they were dropped by the Cavaliers of Purcell 18-12 on two fourth-quarter TDs.

The 45-6 win over the Bombers featured a 55-yard TD run by Co-Captain Jim Caruso and a 67-yard punt return for a TD by Dick Bachman. In the final game of the season, the Panthers raised their lead in the West High series to 12-10-1 with a 38-0 shutout of the Maroons. Ken Bockenstette scored 3 touchdowns to bring his team-leading scoring for the season to 61 points, and his career scoring to 103 points. Caruso, a four-year varsity player, ended the season with 6 TDs and 36 points, as did Dick Bachman.
