Season Highlights: A win over Withrow opened the 1957 season, but during the season it was discovered that Elder had used an ineligible player who was living outside their district at the time, and was forced to forfeit the victory. The ruling affected the first two games, but Elder dropped the second contest to Hamilton, 20-14. Four straight wins followed, but one-point losses to St. Xavier and Purcell, both by 7-6 scores, coupled with a tie between the Spartans and Cavaliers, relegated the Panthers to last place in the GCL for the first time in 10 years.
Season-ending wins over Roger Bacon and Western Hills brought the team's final record to 6-4. In the 6-0 win over Roger Bacon, Jack Ohmer provided the margin of victory with a 35-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Captain Paul Umberg scored two TDs in the win over the Mustangs. Bob Leuenberger also scored a TD against Western Hills, and took the team's scoring title with 11 TDs and 1 conversion for 67 points, just topping Umberg's 66 points on 10 TDs and 6 extra points. Umberg finished his Elder career with 110 points to finish as the team's leading scorer in the decade. He also received the team's Most Valuable Player award at season's end. Jerry Ludwig, Tom Reinstatler, and Bob Leuenberger received first-team All-GCL honors, and Ludwig and Reinstatler were named first-team All-Stars by the Enquirer and Post.
